Zero to paved path in 15 minutes: How to build your platform API fast

Strong internal platforms have a big impact on how fast application teams get new features to production. But for platform teams starting from scratch, how quick is it to set up a platform? From experience, it comes down to tools. In this demo, Derik will create a platform API on a multi-cluster Kubernetes environment. He’ll then use the API to deploy an application and three services in 15 minutes.

Ultimately platform teams deliver value when they enable application development teams to move faster, by simplifying what those teams need to think about. Our experience is that platform teams miss the opportunity to deliver the deepest value because their system isn’t fully self-serve and application teams have to wait too long, or are too caught up in low-level details to move as quickly as they could. 

 In this talk Derik will cover:

  • How platform teams work often falls short of delivering full value
  • How quickly and easily a platform team can establish a self-serve API
  • How quickly an application team can deploy their application to a new environment, complete with all services and infrastructure required
